Being a supermarket butcher means that I get try fresh cuts of meat at crazy prices that most would not be able to afford on a daily basis.
Steaks, sausages, and roasting joints to name but a few are items that appear on our dinner plates most evenings and if I am lucky also in my packed lunch box the next day.
I have been wanting to try cooking some Ox cheeks, a meal I had in a rather posh restaurant some time ago.
So my starting point was finding a recipe that was easy to follow and didn’t have crazy ingredients. Gordon Ramsay fitted that bill with his simple to follow video he made with his son. It started with chunky chopped onions, smashed garlic, chopped tomatoes from a can, red wine and chicken stock.
Six hours later in the slow cooker and I served up our dinner, Ox cheek on a bed of horseradish mash and savoy cabbage on the side and the other half of the bottle of red wine to share.
