What is going on when you can’t even get hold of a jar or pickled onions?

I know the supermarkets were absolutely ransacked during Christmas week, like they always are every year when most leave everything to the last minute. But getting hold of a jar of pickled onions, something that sits on a shelf all year round only to be consumed by the thousands over the Christmas period, for God sake what has the world come to?
